WRANGELL TAKES THE FOURTH
OF JULY SERIOUSLY.
For several days, downtown fills with parades, games, food, music, fishing contests, boat races and a long list of community traditions. Families come home for it. Visitors plan trips around it. And sooner or later, just about everybody seems to end up downtown.
IT STARTS IN JUNE
The celebration actually gets underway weeks before July 4 with the Fourth of July Royalty Competition. Candidates and their supporters spend June selling raffle tickets and homemade food to raise money for the festivities.
Following the food booths around town is part of the experience—and a pretty good excuse not to cook dinner.
Once the Fourth arrives, the schedule fills quickly: the downtown parade, children's activities, fishing contests, golf tournaments, food vendors, live entertainment, boat races and fireworks.
THEN THERE’S
THE LOGGING SHOW.
STRENGTH, BALANCE,
AND TIMBER SKILLS
The annual competition puts strength, balance and timber skills to the test in a nod to Wrangell's logging history.
It's loud, competitive and always draws a crowd.
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
Book lodging early. Fourth of July is one of Wrangell's busiest times of year.
Expect some street closures and adjusted business hours.

July Fourth doesn't come with a Southeast Alaska weather exemption.
