EXPLOSIONS OF FUN

Making memories that last

FESTIVALS AND EVENTS

Wrangell hosts a variety of events and festivals that are fun for all ages!

FOURTH OF JULY

Wrangell’s Fourth of July is one of the best small town celebrations you can experience. There are so many events to participate in over the four day period. Kids games include big wheel races, a scrap fish derby, small boat races, foot races and more. You won’t want to miss live music downtown or the fireworks show on the night of the 3rd! The day of the 4th brings an early morning 5K walk/run, a parade through downtown, the logging show, and the boat races.

ALASKA BEARFEST

Alaska Bearfest is the last week of July, celebrating all things bears! Symposiums provide interesting discussions from experts in bear science and management. Many different workshops are available, along with a special Bearfest Community Market, kids games, golf tournament, and more. Sunday is the Bearfest Marathon, 1/2 Marathon and 5K. Don’t miss out on visiting the Anan Bear & Wildlife Observatory with a local charter company! Since the number of visitors allowed per day is limited, be sure to make your travel plans in advance.

STIKINE RIVER BIRDING FESTIVAL

The Stikine River Birding Festival celebrates the arrival of spring and all the migrating birds that arrive, as well as fish, seals, and sea lions. Eagles start arriving in early February, landing out all over town waiting for the hooligan fish to start up the Stikine River in April. Sea lions also congregate on the islands north of Wrangell to wait. Trumpeter swans can be found at Pat’s Lake. Shorebirds move in and the sandhill cranes start flying overhead in flocks of hundreds. Special events and speakers may occur anytime during April or early May for the month long celebration and spectacular bird viewing on the Stikine River and surrounding islands and shorelines.
