Navigating Wrangell is straightforward, thanks to its compact layout and convenient transportation options. Most accommodations are located near the downtown area, within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants, and popular attractions. While some activities or lodgings may be slightly farther away, they are generally still walkable for most visitors.

Once you’ve settled in, Wrangell’s small size and friendly atmosphere make it easy to explore on foot, by bike, or with any of the local transportation services.

IN TOWN

Many accommodations in Wrangell offer pick-up and drop-off services from the airport or ferry terminal. It’s a good idea to confirm these services when making your reservation. The Stikine Inn, for example, provides a van shuttle service that transports guests to and from the airport or ferry terminal. If you’re staying at a Bed & Breakfast, ask your hosts about their transportation policies—many are happy to assist if they can.

Taxi — Lady Driver Taxi, (907) 660-7102. Reliable and convenient for short trips within Wrangell.
Rental car — Island Escape Rental Cars, at the airport. Busy June–August, so book ahead. Paved in-town roads only; not permitted on forest roads. The office runs around Alaska Airlines arrivals, so leave a number if you call outside those hours.
Scooters — Scoot Alaska. Download the app, rent any scooter in town, and leave it where you finish.
E-bikes — Breakaway Adventures. Step-through moped-style E-Bikes with up to 45 miles of range, enough for Petroglyph Beach to Rainbow Falls and everything in between.

WATER TAXIS

Breakaway Adventures · Muddy Water Adventures

Several local jetboat operators offer water taxi services, providing convenient transportation to U.S. Forest Service cabins and nearby communities. Breakaway Adventures and Muddy Water Adventures offer regular service to Banana Point on the south end of Mitkof Island, providing an alternative way to reach Petersburg. They also offer service to Prince of Wales Island, Ketchikan, and Juneau based on demand.

GETTING TO WRANGELL

BEFORE YOU ARRIVE

The ferry often arrives late at night or very early in the morning. Check with your hosts in advance to ensure they can meet you.
Rental cars: book ahead for June through August, and leave a number if you call outside Alaska Airlines arrival hours.
Rental cars stay on paved in-town roads. For the forest roads, you need a local operator.
Water taxi runs to Petersburg, Prince of Wales, Ketchikan and Juneau go on demand — ask early.
