GETTING AROUND TOWN

It’s Easy!

Wrangell is pretty compact and most places to stay are near the downtown area in walking distance of shops and restaurants. A few activities or accommodations might be a bit further away, but most are still walkable.

Many accommodations will pick you up or drop you off from the airport or ferry terminal, but please ask to make sure. The Stikine Inn has a van shuttle service that will pick-up/drop-off guests at the airport or the ferry terminal and may also be able to arrange transportation to other activities if available. Some of the Bed & Breakfasts may be able to take you to various locations if they are able. Just ask your hosts what their policy is. The ferry will often arrive late at night or very early in the morning.  Please talk to your hosts to find out if they will be able to meet you when you arrive.

WATER TAXIS - Many of the jetboat operators will provide drop off and pick up services to USFS Cabins, and nearby communities. Breakaway Adventures offers fairly regular service to Banana Point on the south end of Mitkof Island which is an alternative means of getting to Petersburg, just north of Wrangell. They also provide service to Prince of Wales Island, Ketchikan and Juneau based on demand.

BOAT RENTALS - Several companies provide small boat rentals. Alaska Vistas rents kayaks and canoes, Breakaway Adventures rents canoes and Alaska Waters rents stand-up paddleboards. Some of the other operators may also have canoes/kayaks available for clients to rent.

CAB SERVICE - There are two cab companies in town, Johnny Cab (907-660-7678) and Tiny's Taxi (907-305-0789).

RENTAL CAR SERVICE - There is one rental car agency in town located at the Airport. Island Escape Rental Cars (islandescapecarrentals@gmail.com, 907-874-3975). During busy times of the year (June-Aug), please make your reservation in advance as they have a limited number of cars. Please note these cars are not available to drive on the forest roads around the island, only on in-town paved roads. Their office is usually open only before, during and after Alaska Airlines' morning or afternoon arrival/departure, so when calling, please leave a phone number and they will return your call. If you live outside of the United States, please make sure you leave an email for them to reach you.

AIR CHARTERS - Sunrise Aviation is the local air charter service and they can provide flight seeing tours as well as transportation to/from other southeast Alaska communities. Alaska Seaplanes has a daily scheduled flight from Wrangell to Sitka.
