MT. DEWEY TRAIL

The Mt. Dewey trail climbs a half mile up to a clearing in the trees with a platform overlooking Wrangell and it's surrounding waterways. The trailhead is within walking distance of downtown, with green signs on residential streets and stairways guiding you to the start of the hike.

Famed American naturalist John Muir climbed Mt. Dewey in 1879, where he started a fire at his campsite during a storm, scaring the Tlingit people below. Now there are signs up there saying 'No Campfires'!

The trail winds through lush hemlock forest on a 'step and run' boardwalk. This trail is not suitable for those with knee, hip or mobility issues.
